His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Riyadh Region and Chairman of the region’s Tourism Development Council, affirmed that the Riyadh Region is set to undertake infrastructure and economic facility projects that will help boost the region’s appeal to tourists, which in turn will lead to increased investment opportunities and more jobs forcitizens, as well as providing a humane environment and a place of respite for the residents of Riyadh and its visitors.
His Highness noted the opening of important historic projects, foremost among them the opening of the Al-Bajiri neighborhood and the laying of the cornerstone for the Samhan Heritage Hotel project in historic Diriyah, under the gracious patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in addition to the launch of a number of major projects such as public transportation initiatives, the development of Historic Diriyah, the redevelopment of downtown Riyadh, the expansion of King Khalid International Airport, and other projects that will bring about a significant transformation and contribute to increasing the city’s appeal to tourists.”
This statement was made while he was chairing the 15th meeting of the region’s Tourism Development Council, attended by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, President of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, yesterday evening, Monday.
In the same vein, His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, President of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, said that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, predicted at the first meeting on tourism development for the Riyadh region that the city of Riyadh would become one of the most important sites for tourism growth, which is what we are seeing now, as evidenced by the growing visitor statistics and the expansion in the number of hotel rooms.
The Authority’s President praised the progress the Riyadh region is making in the areas of tourism development and national heritage, noting that the region is benefiting from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques’ Program for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage, which was recently adopted by the state and includes numerous heritage and historical projects, as the region will see dozens of projects under the program, including a number of heritage villages, museums, Saudi royal palaces, historic city centers, handicraft centers, and others.
He said that the Riyadh region, with its wealth of tourist and heritage sites, as well as its political and economic significance and large population, places it at the forefront of the Authority’s priorities, especially given the major projects currently underway in the city of Riyadh that will contribute to increasing the city’s appeal to tourists.
