The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources announced that the number of factories that obtained environmental permits increased from 18% at the beginning of 2021 to 72% at the end of the second half of 2023.

The ministry explained that the number of factories that obtained the environmental permit reached (7239) factories, stressing that obtaining the environmental permit is a basic condition for granting the industrial license; this is in implementation of the Cabinet’s decision to include environmental permits among the basic requirements for issuing licenses to practice activities with an environmental impact.

Enhancing the sustainability of the industrial sector

The Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources indicated that this increase reflects the Ministry’s efforts in protecting the environment and promoting sustainability in the industrial sector, as it was keen to provide the necessary facilities for factories to obtain environmental permits, including coordination with the competent authorities to develop solutions for any challenges they may face in this regard.

The ministry affirmed its commitment to increasing the percentage of factories that comply with obtaining environmental permits and achieving environmental sustainability goals in the industrial sector, calling on factories that have not obtained environmental permits to expedite obtaining them by completing the procedures through the website of the National Center for Environmental Compliance.
