The Agency for Stimulating Housing Supply and Real Estate Development at the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing announced the launch of the “Ajood” across 74 housing projects, with the aim of obtaining a sustainability assessment and issuing a “Sustainable” certification. This will help raise the quality of housing products and meet the aspirations of Saudi families, and providing a modern residential environment that meets their needs and enhances their well-being. The agency noted that this initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Quality of Life Program to support and incentivize real estate developers, thereby ensuring the improvement of project quality.
Promoting the Quality of Life Program
She noted that the "Sustainable" certification, awarded to residential and commercial communities and buildings based on ratings that measure the sustainability of these projects, is supported by the "Ajoud" initiative; is part of the Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs, and Housing’s efforts to strengthen its contribution to the Quality of Life Program and achieve the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. This is accomplished by applying sustainability and quality-of-life standards, increasing the per capita share of green spaces, promoting the cultivation of environmentally friendly plants, providing safe, dedicated paths for pedestrians and cyclists, and reducing water waste by reusing it to irrigate parks and green spaces.
It clarified that the initiative’s standards are part of the agency’s efforts to encourage real estate developers to adopt quality and sustainability standards in their projects; with the aim of providing advanced infrastructure for beneficiaries, which contributes to enhancing the urban landscape in Saudi cities, where the standards cover sustainability, quality of life, the provision of green spaces, and the reduction of energy and water consumption.
The Sustainable Construction Online Platform
The initiative is launched in collaboration with the Quality of Life Program to support real estate developers by initiating the registration and review procedures for sustainability assessment service requests and obtaining the “Sustainable” certification through the Electronic Platform for Sustainable Construction.
The “Mustaqbal” certification helps raise real estate development companies’ scores on technical standards assessments, improve the efficiency of energy and water resource management, strengthen local identity in urban areas, and reduce operating costs, as well as promoting the use of clean energy sources, reducing carbon emissions, supporting the operational cycle, and providing an environment conducive to physical activity and improving residents’ health.
