The voter registration phase for the municipal elections (the third phase) has started in all regions of the Kingdom, including the city of Riyadh and its governorates, where the number of male and female voters who registered their names in the electoral centers reached about 7361 male and female voters, according to the statistics of the local committee for municipal elections in the region.

Smart App
<In line with the modern spirit of the times and to facilitate a special application for the conduct of the municipal elections process, the Local Committee for Municipal Elections in Riyadh launched a special application on smart phones “Android” and soon on “iPhone”, called “Municipal Elections 1436 AH”, which helps its user to recognize all information related to the municipal elections.The application contains information explaining the concept and stages of the electoral process, in addition to information about electoral centers for voters and candidate registration centers and some electronic services such as the service of locating the nearest electoral center, and the application also allows access to the locations of electoral centers and districts by tracking Google Maps.
Through the application, the Commission has also dedicated a special section for the library of photos, documents and news as well as some interactive services for assistance and inquiries such as the mobile messaging service, mailing list and a special section for publications and documents related to the municipal elections.
It is noteworthy that the application will be developed in several stages to ensure the provision of the largest possible number of services that will facilitate the voters and candidates in the process of participating in the municipal elections.
Expectations of strong competition
Many observers have predicted that the municipal elections during the third session will witness an increase in the number of citizens wishing to participate in them and compete for their seats.

For its part, the General Committee for Municipal Elections welcomed cooperation with independent (non-governmental) non-profit national institutions and associations to participate in monitoring the elections, expressing its readiness to provide all the necessary facilities for them to carry out their role.The official spokesperson for the municipal council elections, Engineer Jadeea bin Nahar Al-Qahtani, explained that the Municipal Councils Law stipulated the right of independent national non-governmental associations to monitor the elections, noting that the law did not address international civil society organizations or United Nations bodies, considering that municipal elections are ultimately local elections.
In this context, he pointed out that Article (24) of the Municipal Councils Law stipulates that "independent national non-governmental non-profit organizations and associations have the right to independently monitor the implementation of election procedures."

Women entered the current election cycle as voters and candidates, allowing them to nominate and elect whoever they deem capable of promoting municipal services in their area, and 424 electoral centers were prepared for women out of 1263 electoral centers spread in the cities and governorates of the Kingdom, and local election committees were formed in all regions.
