The Holy Capital Secretariat (4423) certificates of compliance for buildings in various targeted and non-targeted streets and neighborhoods of Makkah, while the number of buildings whose owners were notified reached (2,375) within the targeted sites, and penalties and fines were imposed on them, along with notification of the requirement to obtain the certificate.
The Municipality clarified that, through its sub-municipalities, it continues to accept applications for the issuance of certificates for buildings located along the targeted roads and streets, after their status has been promptly rectified, to ensure that the owners of these commercial buildings comply with requirements that their structures be free of visual distortions; to provide a healthy and sustainable urban environment; and to enhance the city’s urban landscape to improve the quality of life in various areas and neighborhoods.
The Secretariat emphasized to owners of buildings located within the targeted areas the need to obtain the certificate promptly, to avoid fines, noting that the issuance of the certificate requires specific criteria to ensure these buildings meet the minimum standards for addressing visual disturbances, as outlined in the updated guide for procedures regarding the issuance of building compliance certificates. The guide includes 19 violations that buildings must be free of in order to receive the certificate, which is free of charge and valid for three years. The requirements and the certificate issuance process can be accessed through the “Baladi” app via simple and user-friendly steps.
It is worth noting that the Secretariat has launched an awareness campaign over the past few months through social media and its various channels, to urge owners of the targeted commercial buildings to obtain a compliance certificate, calling on them to promptly address all visual defects in the buildings in accordance with the Building Compliance Certificate Procedures Manual approved by the Ministry.
