The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud inaugurated today, Wednesday, Jumada I 25, 1446 AH, corresponding to November 27, 2024 AD, the Riyadh Train project, which is the backbone of the public transport network in the city of Riyadh and one of the elements of the transportation system in the city.

He watched an introductory film on the Riyadh Train, which is one of the major projects witnessed by the Kingdom during this prosperous era, characterized by its high design and technical specifications, and consists of a network that includes 6 train tracks with a length of 176 kilometers and 85 stations, including 4 main stations.

<On this occasion, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, expressed his great thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his support and patronage. The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, may God bless him, for his support and care for the "Riyadh Public Transport Project, both train and buses," since it was an idea until it materialized on the ground, in accordance with his wise directives to complete the project according to the highest international specifications and in the most complete manner, to provide its services to the residents and visitors of the city of Riyadh.

<His Highness the Crown Prince said: ”The public transportation project in Riyadh, both train and buses, is a fruit of the planting of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud - may God protect him - and based on his insightful vision - may God support him - when he was chairman of the Supreme Authority for the Development of Riyadh City.”

The Crown Prince said that the project is the result of the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. It should be noted that the “Riyadh Public Transport Project” started from the various studies prepared by (the Higher Authority for the Development of Riyadh City - now the Royal Commission for Riyadh City) about the current situation of the city and its current and future needs from the public transport sector, and identifying the best solutions and options to establish a sustainable public transport system that is compatible with the reality of the city and its urban, demographic and traffic characteristics.

Riyadh Public Transport Project. These studies led to the development of the Comprehensive Plan for Public Transport in Riyadh, which included the establishment of a rail network and a parallel bus network to accommodate the existing and expected mobility requirements in the city, culminating in the issuance of the Cabinet decision “approving the implementation of the (Public Transport Project in Riyadh - Train and Bus)”.

The CRA launched the process of developing the Public Transport Project in Riyadh. The Authority launched a major process to qualify international consortiums to compete for the implementation of the project, and the issuance of the royal approval to award the contracts for the implementation of the “Riyadh Metro” project to (three consortiums) comprising more than 19 major international companies from 13 countries.

In addition to its precise nature, high design and technical specifications, and its harmony with the social, environmental and urban characteristics of Riyadh and its residents, in addition to the project's contribution to the returns on the city of Riyadh beyond providing public transportation services and raising the quality of life in general, in line with the objectives of the “Saudi Vision 2030”.
