The Director General of the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage, Secretary of the Tourism Development Council in the Eastern Province, Engineer Abdullatif bin Mohammed Al-Bunyan, revealed that the total spending of tourism in the Eastern Province exceeds (11) billion riyals, after the Eastern Province succeeded in attracting more than 7 million visitors, while the number of licensed tourist guides by the Tourism Authority in the region reached (44) licensed guides.
Al-Bunyan said that the region witnessed a qualitative leap in the tourist accommodation sector, which grew to more than (115) hotels, including (13) 5-star hotels and more than (750) furnished housing units, and the next three years will witness the launch of about (50) five-star and four-star hotels, and the success of the Eastern Province at the level of the Gulf countries was reflected in the growing number of travel and tourism agencies and tour operators, which increased by (23%) in the Eastern Province.4%).
.The Eastern Province Tourism Development Strategy aims to make the Eastern Province the main destination on the Arabian Gulf for family vacations that combine relaxation and diverse activities, enjoying the heritage and environmental advantages of the region, land and sea trips, within the framework of religious values and social traditions, especially since the Eastern Province occupies a prominent place in the Gulf tourism map, due to its distinguished location next to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as a link between different destinations.
