The Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF), represented by its Secretary General and Representative to the United Nations Engineer Faisal Al-Fadl, participated in the Sixth Global Conference on Promoting Linkages between the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in the Danish capital Copenhagen, under the theme: “Unlocking Linkages for a Just, Climate Resilient, and Sustainable Future”: "Unlocking interdependencies towards a just, climate-resilient and sustainable future."
Promoting the Sustainable Development Goals
The Forum's participation was part of a specialized session held today titled: "Promoting the SDGs in Coastal Cities: Integrated Approaches to Building Climate Resilience and Sustainable Development”, with the participation of experts and specialists from the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the City of Copenhagen, the University of Sussex, and Arup.
Engineer Faisal Al Fadl reviewed the Saudi pioneering role in developing and applying technical and institutional solutions that enhance the ability of coastal cities to adapt to climate change, especially in light of the increasing environmental challenges on the coasts of the Red Sea. He also highlighted the importance of municipalities and housing localizing the sustainable development goals through the Saaf framework, which is an approved Arab model for assessing environmental conformity in buildings, neighborhoods and cities.
In his speech, Al Fadl said: ”Climate resilience is not achieved through imported solutions, but through localized tools that reflect the nature of society and the environment, and Saaf Green Building is not only a technical framework, but a societal and economic empowerment mechanism that pushes us towards integrated, climate-safe and resilient cities.”
The session served as an international platform to highlight the national experience in linking climate adaptation and sustainable urban development, as well as building bridges of knowledge cooperation with international partners to develop solutions based on local realities, thus reinforcing the global commitment to implement the Paris Agreement and achieve the 2030 Agenda.
