This evening, Tuesday, 28 Muharram, corresponding to November 10, marks the start of the “First International Conference on Combating Cybercrime,” sponsored by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz—may God protect him—at the InterContinental Hotel.

On this occasion, His Excellency the Acting University President, Dr. Fawzan bin Abdulrahman Al-Fawzan, explained that the conference is being held as part of efforts to address cybercrime, which, according to recent statistics, poses a threat to societal security, adding that the rise in cybercrime is a result of the remarkable expansion in the use of information technology in society worldwide and the significant increase in its role in managing societal affairs. Cybercrime encompasses several disciplines, including: law, the judiciary, computer science, finance, telecommunications, and data analysis.

The university president listed the key topics the conference will focus on, namely the need to raise awareness of the dangers cybercrime poses to the security of individuals and society, and a review of the penalties for cybercrime as stipulated by regulations. The conference will present modern studies and solutions to help combat this type of crime. It will also feature a diverse range of contemporary perspectives on all related issues, as the conference brings together professionals from academia and industry, as well as officials with expertise in matters related to cybercrime and digital forensics from around the world.

It is worth noting that the conference program includes several events, such as seminars, workshops, poster sessions, and guest lectures, and an accompanying exhibition showcasing the latest software and hardware technologies in the field of combating cybercrime from both government and private sectors, as well as the latest secure electronic transactions and services and the most up-to-date software applications in the field of combating cybercrime.
