The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is moving steadily towards achieving its sustainability targets, as confirmed by official data issued in 2024-2025 by the energy and environment authorities, as part of the “Green Saudi” initiative, which is one of the most important pillars supporting the Kingdom's Vision 2030, as the Green Saudi initiative turns from vision to reality in 2025.
Rapid growth in renewable energy
The production capacity of grid-connected renewable energy reached 6551 MW by the end of 2024, on the back of the entry of five solar plants into service during the same year with a total capacity of MW, according to data issued by the General Authority for Statistics, where the data confirms that this capacity is sufficient to cover the consumption of more than one million and 140 thousand homes within the Kingdom.
Huge investments in green infrastructure
The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed that the volume of investments in renewable energy projects reached SAR 19 billion and 839 million by the end of 2024, reflecting the growing role of the sector in the Kingdom's economic and environmental transformation, while 6.2 GW of renewable energy has already been connected to the grid until 2025, and 44.2 GW is under development within approved projects, enough to provide more than 7 million homes with clean electricity, while the Kingdom plans to reach 130 GW of renewable energy by 2030.

National commitment to reduce emissions
The Kingdom aims to reduce emissions by approximately 278 million tons per year by 2030, with an energy mix of 50% of renewables and 50% of natural gas, according to the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), with an estimated 705 billion Saudi riyals (about $188 billion) invested in these initiatives since their launch. The Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) has invested an estimated 705 billion Saudi riyals (about $188 billion) in these initiatives since their launch.
Extensive afforestation and environmental reclamation
Figures released by the Saudi Green Initiative confirm the ongoing implementation of more than 86 green initiatives within the Kingdom, including afforestation, pollution control, wildlife protection, and land reclamation, which comes as part of a long-term program aimed at raising the quality of life and promoting environmental balance in various regions of the Kingdom.
Actual Implementation of Saudi Green Initiatives
These indicators confirm that Saudi Green initiatives have moved from the planning stage to the actual implementation stage, in conjunction with the expansion of projects, the integration of government efforts to implement green initiatives, and the increasing role of the private sector, as these developments are considered a key pillar to support low-emission economic growth and attract investments related to clean energy and green technologies.
