The Number One Enemy... Dr. Hossam Youssef

Every person is born with a set of events and fortunes, which take the form of a few opportunities, set against the countless challenges that lie in wait throughout their life, and the obstacles and barriers that shut doors in their face, alongside occasional moments of relief and comfort—such as marriage, a job offer, or the fulfillment of a dream.

The true moment of challenge begins when the newborn is separated from its mother and the umbilical cord is cut; the first challenge is to stay alive, and the challenges continue at all levels and in every stage until life ends, yet the challenges never cease—they seize us from the moment of birth, throughout a short, complex journey where fate plays with us and circumstances lead us wherever they will, our positions and circumstances shift, our relationships with those around us change dozens of times, and we swap life roles with one another, as interests clash, desires and tastes differ, and perspectives diverge. Thus, yesterday’s friend becomes today’s enemy, and yesterday’s enemy into a close friend, and so on in relationships that defy all logic. . And despite all these events, there is one person who must not change or alter their stance, principles, or beliefs at the same pace as the world around them changes—that person is you.

In this life, people suffer no matter how much wealth or comfort they have; there is no escape from suffering, even if it varies in scale, form, and severity, Everyone pays the price for their existence in this world, and it rarely demands payment from our pockets; rather, it wrests it from our souls, our nervous systems, and from feelings of longing, eagerness, and anxiety—things that cannot be acquired or obtained with money alone.

Undoubtedly, human beings, their behavior, and their internal reactions form part of the challenges and obstacles they face in life. The negative messages we send to ourselves are our first enemies, and the vanguard of the army of despair within our souls. So when we are about to undertake a new task, an inner voice chimes in to tell you that the task is difficult and that you might fail at it—and so on with these discouraging messages that allow failure to take hold of us and seize control of our time.
