Implementation of the “Third Group” of the road development program in Riyadh at a cost of more than 8 billion riyals

The third set of Riyadh's road development program, costing more than SAR 8 billion to boost transportation, has begun.

The Royal Commission for Riyadh City Royal Commission for Riyadh has announced the start of the implementation of “Group III” projects of the Roads Development Program in the capital, including (6 projects) at a total cost of more than (8 billion riyals), with the aim of strengthening the capital's transportation system, improving connectivity between its parts, preparing it to be a major center in providing sustainable transportation and logistics services in the Middle East region, and enhancing Riyadh's position as one of the most important capitals of the world; in line with the targets of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 programs.

The “Group III” projects include of the program, which will be implemented during 4-3 years, include the following methods:
1. The Jeddah Road Development Project, with a length of 29 km, contributes to raising the efficiency of the road and expanding the tracks to accommodate the increasing daily traffic, including the construction of 14 bridges and 5 main tracks, with a capacity of 353,000 vehicles per day.
2. Taif Road Development Project, with a length of 15 km to improve traffic and connect the southern and western neighborhoods to the capital, and includes the implementation of 4 bridges, 4 main tracks and 2 tunnels, with a capacity of 200,000 vehicles per day.
3. 3. The Thumama Road Development Project - Eastern Part, with a length of 8 km, includes the implementation of 3 bridges and 3 tunnels, and connects vital axes in the north and east of Riyadh, with a capacity of 200 thousand vehicles per day.

4. 4. The King Abdulaziz Road Development Project - Northern Part, with a length of 4.7 km, contributes to raising the quality of traffic and enhancing the daily capacity of the network to 450,000 vehicles per day. The project includes 4 bridges, 4 main lanes, and one tunnel. 5. The Othman Bin Affan Road Development Project - Northern Part, with a length of 4.3 km, includes the implementation of 7 bridges and the improvement of the road tracks to enhance the flow in the north of the capital, with a capacity of 500,000 vehicles per day.

6. The project of engineering modifications for congested sites “second package”, with the aim of improving 8 sites in the road network in Riyadh, through engineering solutions that contribute to reducing congestion, raising the efficiency of some intersections, and increasing the average capacity by 40-60%.
