Saudi-UAE platform launched to standardize specifications for construction and housing projects

In order to standardize the construction sector, building materials used and specifications of the housing projects sector, a «Joint Working Group on Housing» was formed between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to strengthen the strategic partnership in the field of housing, develop housing services and launch pioneering projects through a unified system, within the framework of cooperation and integration between the two countries and within the initiatives of the Saudi-UAE Coordination Council.

Launching initiatives and projects

The joint team is specialized in developing initiatives, conducting studies, submitting proposals to the Executive Committee of the Council, and working to launch joint initiatives and projects in housing-related fields, in addition to exchanging knowledge, expertise, information, studies, policies, administrative, legal and technical expertise, and social and population research.

The team also works within the framework of cooperation and integration between the two countries and within the initiatives of the Saudi-UAE Coordination Council. The team also works within the terms of reference of its tasks to build a knowledge platform through which standard specifications for the construction sector and building materials used in housing are standardized, and coordinates to issue and develop legislation that gives priority use in housing projects to building materials produced in the two countries in particular and in the GCC countries in general after completing the statutory approvals from the relevant authorities, in addition to organizing visits between delegations to various housing projects in the two countries and taking the necessary approvals for their implementation.

The team also works within the terms of reference of its tasks to build a knowledge platform through which standard specifications for the construction sector and building materials used in housing are standardized.

Achieving housing stability

Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program, said that the UAE government believes in the need to strengthen joint cooperation with Saudi Arabia to ensure integration in providing pioneering housing services that contribute to achieving housing stability within the best standards and meet the aspirations of families in both countries.

His Excellency the UAE Minister of Infrastructure Development and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program. Al Nuaimi emphasized that this partnership will contribute to achieving sustainability in housing projects to ensure optimal investment of available resources and provide opportunities to implement pioneering housing solutions.

Membership of the joint team

<The Joint Housing Task Force was formed between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, with the President of each side chairing one of the two sessions of the team. On the Saudi side, the team includes Engineer Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Badeer as Chairman, Engineer Mohammed bin Saud Al-Ghazwani as Vice Chairman, Dr. Hassan bin Shawki Al-Hazmi, Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Ghiheb, Ibrahim bin Saad Al-Saif, and Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Rashed, and on the UAE side, the team is headed by Engineer Jamila Al-Findi, Director General of the Sheikh Zayed Housing Program, Hamad bin Nakhirat Al-Ameri as Vice Chairman, and members Engineer Khalifa Al-Tunaiji, Emirates Development Bank representative, Khaled Al-Samiri, and Engineer Ibtisam Al-Ghweis.

The team's membership is made up of engineers from each side of the country, who are also members of the team. The Saudi-UAE Coordination Council was established as part of an agreement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates in May 2016, under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, to achieve a common vision centered on highlighting the position of the two countries in the fields of economy, human development, political integration, security and military, to achieve the well-being of the society of the two countries.

The Saudi-UAE Coordination Council was established in May 2016.
