The Secretary of the Riyadh Region, Engineer Abdullah Al-Mubarak, revealed that more than (74) km of the «Riyadh Metro» will run through underground tunnels, which will not disrupt traffic, and more than 80 kilometers of the project will run on elevated bridges, while approximately 10 kilometers will run at ground level along King Abdullah Road and sections of King Abdulaziz Road and Al-Olaya Road.
He noted that the total length of the metro lines is 176 km, making it one of the largest transportation projects in the world.
In a press statement, Engineer Al-Mubarak estimated that the «Riyadh Metro» would initially transport approximately (1,160,000) passengers upon its launch, with the number later increasing to 3,600,000 passengers, emphasizing that the project will create job opportunities during both construction and ongoing operations. The construction period will be 48 months, in accordance with the directives of the esteemed leadership. He noted that each of the winning consortia has officials responsible for supervising and managing the work and design, in addition to consultants from the Riyadh Development Authority to oversee implementation, ensure quality control, and monitor safety and traffic conditions during construction.
