Many managers believe that the leadership of companies and organizations, especially commercial or for-profit ones, must focus on activity, strategic plan and board decisions, and this is true, but there is an aspect that is overlooked, which is the human side in dealing with workers and not resorting to internal regulations and systems in the event of a defect or failure by them, which is known as the human side of effective leadership!
The human side of effective leadership!
The perception is that using powers and applying sanctions and penalties and not empathizing with the employee and dealing with him like a car engine that can be replaced at any time if it breaks down is harmful on the long-term level of the company or organization. Demoulas is a great example as he was very popular within the company as he was known for his proximity to employees and his concern for their human and professional issues, but this approach was not accepted by the board of directors and that his «humanitarian» style is costing the company high costs, as the board of directors dismissed him because his management approach is based on putting employees first and giving them generous wages and bonuses despite his success in maintaining competitive prices for customers.
But the firing triggered a wave of solidarity inside and outside the company as employees declared a work stoppage demanding the return of their CEO, and customers joined the solidarity campaign by boycotting stores, causing sales to drop by as much as 95%
Faced with this unprecedented pressure, management was forced to reinstate Demoulas in his position. However, the essence of the story lies not only in his return but in the leadership model he represented; a leader who was unchanged by power and authority and remained true to his humanity, empathy, and respect for workers, believing that the success of organizations begins with valuing people above all else,
An increased turnover rate would weaken the ability to attract managerial competencies due to the lack of stability and this will certainly affect the quality of outputs and its reflection on profits directly.
