In cooperation with the Riyadh Region Governorate, the region’s municipality, represented by the municipality sector – West Riyadh, and the National Center for Waste Management (Mawan), implemented a joint monitoring campaign to reduce the random dumping of construction and demolition waste in places other than those designated for it.

The campaign resulted in the detection of approximately 100 violations, including violations related to the jurisdiction of “Mawan”, traffic violations, violations of the requirements of the General Authority for Transport, in addition to violations related to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. The necessary legal measures were taken against the violators, within the framework of the integration of oversight efforts between the competent authorities to reduce irregular practices.

The campaign's activities included verifying compliance with the regulations governing the transport and disposal of construction and demolition waste , ensuring that contracts were made with approved and licensed waste carriers from "Mawan", and verifying that excavation outputs and construction waste were transported to approved sites, thereby enhancing the efficiency of waste management and reducing random practices and their environmental impacts.

Compliance with construction waste management requirements

The Riyadh Municipality stressed the importance of contractors and establishments adhering to the regulatory requirements for managing construction and demolition waste, and dealing with licensed waste carriers, calling on residents to contribute to maintaining the city's cleanliness and to report violations through the "My City" application, in support of regulatory efforts and to promote social responsibility.

The campaign comes as an extension of the Riyadh Region Municipality’s efforts to intensify field monitoring, raise the level of compliance with municipal requirements, and reduce visual distortions and environmental pollution resulting from the irregular disposal of construction and demolition waste, in conjunction with the role of “Mawan” in regulating waste management activities and monitoring the commitment of service providers to approved licenses, in a way that supports the sustainability of the urban environment and maintains the cleanliness of neighborhoods and public facilities, in line with its vision to be a leading municipality for a prosperous and sustainable Riyadh that enhances the quality of life.
