25 companies qualify to produce 400 megawatts of wind power in Al Jouf

<The Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources (MEMR) today revealed that 25 companies have qualified for the 400 MW wind power project in Dumat Al Jandal governorate in Al Jouf region, the first project of its kind in the Kingdom. According to the Ministry's Renewable Energy Projects Development Office, the qualified companies were categorized into three categories, “Project Managers”, “Technical Managers” or both, based on their previous experience in working on independent power production projects of this size.

The companies will be able to produce 400 MW of electricity from wind energy in Dumat Al Jandal Governorate in Al Jouf region, which is the first project of its kind in the Kingdom. <Companies that did not make it through the qualification process for the management or technical side of this project will be able to participate in the qualification and bidding process for future projects under the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP). The ministry explained that the Dumat Al Jandal project is a continuation of the first phase of the National Renewable Energy Program, as the deadline for receiving the project documents was set for January 2018.

Ministry of Energy and Industry Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih stressed that the Kingdom is committed to its plans to diversify energy sources and introduce renewable energy into the Kingdom's electricity mix, noting that the second phase of the program will be launched before the end of this year, in line with the target of reaching 9.5 GW of renewable energy by 2023.
