Huge Success for the 16th Edition of the BUILDEX 2014 Construction and Building Exhibition

The 16th edition of the BUILDEX 2014 Construction and Building Exhibition, organized by Dhahran International Exhibitions Company in Al-Khobar from February 16 to 20, was a remarkable success, with more than 120 local and international exhibitors showcasing innovative and distinctive products in the construction and development sector.A companion exhibition was also held, covering everything related to heavy equipment and cranes, in addition to live demonstrations explaining how the equipment works, with the aim of achieving several key objectives, most notably: highlighting the sector’s active role and genuine progress in the Kingdom, and showcasing the development of local industry and technology in this field.
Significant International Participation
The company’s CEO, Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Husseini, explained that this year’s exhibition will feature more than 120 local and international exhibitors presenting the most significant and distinctive innovations in the construction and infrastructure sector, which contribute to adding value to the local market. The exhibition is distinguished byhigh-quality participation from a number of countries with expertise in this field, most notably Germany, Italy, China, India, Turkey, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Qatar. The exhibition has provided 7,200 square meters of indoor space to display their products, along with 30,000 square meters of outdoor space.
The exhibition also features a companion event showcasing everything related to heavy equipment and cranes, in addition to live demonstrations explaining how the equipment works, in an effort to achieve several key objectives, most notably: Highlighting the sector’s active role and genuine progress in the Kingdom, and shedding light on the development of local industry and technology in this field.
It is worth noting that the construction sector is considered one of the most popular investment sectors, and it serves as a source of employment and investment opportunities, contributing the most to GDP after the oil sector; its contribution to GDP in 2012 reached approximately 16.5 percent, compared to the private sector’s growth rate of 11.5 percent, while GDP growth at current prices stood at 8.6 percent. Forecasts also indicate that the size of the construction sector in the Kingdom currently exceeds the $200 billion mark and is projected to reach $300 billion in 2016. Meanwhile, the building materials sector has been gaining increasing importance recently due to rising demand and the growing number and scale of ongoing projects
Design and Decor
Exhibitors in the fields of building materials, construction, and decor presented a number of innovative products at competitive prices, as well as everything related to the construction sector—from manufacturing to importing and exporting, in addition to the latest developments in the heavy equipment industry, which significantly contributes to the quality of service provided to the Saudi market, as well as the latest advancements in materials used for interior design and home and building decor.
The exhibition aimed to highlight the effective role and genuine progress being witnessed in the Kingdom’s construction sector, and to shed light on industrial and technological advancements in this field, as well as to facilitate the exchange of expertise with developed nations—which drives growth and serves as a key driver of the Kingdom’s economic development.
Participation of Contractors and Developers
The company’s CEO, Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Husseini, noted that the exhibition provided contractors, real estate developers, and project owners with a wide range of construction solutions, as well as giving visitors the opportunity to explore the latest innovations in construction materials, technologies, and equipment. It also highlighted the effective role of opening up to global markets in expanding the scope of their businesses and securing supplies for all their project needs.

The seminars accompanying the exhibition drew significant engagement from specialists and interested parties. The working papers presented by academics from the College of Environmental Design and the Department of Architecture at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals—who curated the scientific program for the seminars—discussed the most prominent challengesfacing vocational education in the construction sector, in addition to examining the most important designs and solutions in the construction sector and the region’s major ongoing projects, as well as exchanging views, experiences, expertise, and specific applications in this sector.
Many visitors to the exhibition expressed their satisfaction with the progress they witnessed in the sector through the innovations and improvements presented by more than 120 participating companies, ranging from leading international firms to local companies representing the most prominent names and major local and global firms specializing in the field of building and construction.
Active Participation by Amlak
The real estate newspaper ”Amlak” participated in the exhibition by setting up its own booth, where it showcased its pioneering experience in sponsoring and covering various exhibitions and events held both inside and outside the Kingdom, It also shared its expertise with participants on documenting real estate work in a scientific and innovative manner.
The Amlak booth attracted a large number of visitors throughout the four-day event, during which Amlak distributed a number of free copies of its publication to the visiting public.
More than 10,000 visitors
The 16th edition of the BUILDEX 2014 Construction and Building Exhibition, organized by Dhahran International Exhibitions Company in Al-Khobar, attracted a large turnout of visitors, reaching more than 10,000.
