Saudi Ports recorded a 5.34 % increase in the volume of general cargo in January 2022, totaling approximately 25 million metric tons, while the total volume of foodstuffs reached 2 million metric tons, an increase of 2.06%, compared to the same period in 2021.
According to statistics released by “Mawani,” Saudi Ports also recorded increases in a number of other operational indicators, including a 48.28%, or 88,000 passengers, and a 7.36% increase in livestock numbers, totaling 126,000 head of imported livestock.
Conversely, Saudi Ports recorded a 7.22% decrease in the number of containers handled, totaling 819,198 thousand containers, as well as a 2.41% decrease in transshipment containers, totaling approximately 448,000, and a 6.26% decrease in the number of cars, for a total of 71 thousand vehicles, as well as a 4.17% decrease in the number of ships, totaling approximately 1,057 ships, amid the challenges facing maritime transport and supply chains globally.
The General Authority for Ports affirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to bring about a qualitative leap in the maritime transport and port sectors through its development strategy aimed at fostering a sustainable and prosperous maritime sector, which will help cement the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub and enable it to achieve its economic and social aspirations, thereby contributing to the achievement of the maritime transport sector’s objectives and aligning with the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics, and supports the programs of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
