Under the guidance of our wise leadership, may God support them, the Jeddah Provincial Secretariat has begun addressing informal settlements and implementing its development plan aimed at upgrading them and re-planning their residential neighborhoods in accordance with a modern urban vision that ensures the region’s development, improves services, and public facilities, rectify irregularities, remove encroachments, strengthen community security, and bridge the development gap between adjacent neighborhoods.
The efforts to address informal settlements were as sudden as some have portrayed them; rather, they began nearly 12 years ago with in-depth studies of their conditions, methods for addressing them, and mechanisms for compensating property owners there, in accordance with a comprehensive development vision capable of achieving two main objectives:
The first objective: to develop and reorganize the informal settlements, complete their public services and facilities, and integrate them harmoniously with Jeddah’s neighborhoods.
The second objective: to mitigate the security and social risks posed by these informal settlements, as parts of them have become shelters for those who violate regulations.
