The General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) released today the Labor Market Bulletin for the second quarter of 2022, which showed that the unemployment rate for total Saudis decreased to 9.7% for the second quarter of 2022, compared to 10.1% in the first quarter of 2022.
The total unemployment rate (for Saudis and non-Saudis) decreased to 5.8% compared to 6% in the first quarter of 2022. The overall unemployment rate (for Saudis and non-Saudis) decreased to 5.8% compared to 6% in the first quarter of 2022, and the unemployment rate for Saudi women for the second quarter of 2022 decreased to 19.3% compared to 20.2% in the previous quarter.

The labor force participation rate also increased in the second quarter of 2022, reaching 4.7% compared to 5.1% in the previous quarter, the authority announced. The labor force participation rate for total Saudis increased for the second quarter of 2022, reaching 51.8% compared to 50.1% in the previous quarter.

GASTAT pointed out that the Labor Market Bulletin relies on a household survey conducted by GASTAT, which falls under the classification of (social statistics), in which information is collected through a representative sample of the population of various administrative regions in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from households, and completing an electronic form containing a number of questions.
The survey provides estimates and indicators related to the labor force for the working-age population (15 years and above) residing in the Kingdom, estimates of the population (inside and outside the labor force) as well as calculating the most important labor market indicators such as the unemployment rate, labor force participation rate and others.
