Al-Hgeel: Amending the Housing Subsidy Regulation enables citizens to own their own homes more easily

His Excellency the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Haqeel, thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for the Cabinet's approval at its session held today on amending the regulation of housing support.

The Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Haqeel, said His Excellency explained that this generous approval comes as a continuation of the leadership's support and interest in the housing sector and its keenness to enable citizens to own their first home easily and conveniently, by providing flexible solutions and multiple options that take into account the diversity of needs.

Reducing the age of eligibility

The amendments to the Housing Support included lowering the age of eligibility for housing support for the head of the family to 20 years instead of 25 years, eliminating the condition of dependency from the wife and divorced mother to give equal opportunities to all citizens of both sexes, in addition to allowing the amendment to the competent authority to review the period of eligibility for divorced women for housing support with the relevant authorities.

Reducing the disposal period

The amendments also included reducing the period of disposal of housing support options from 10 years to 5 years, which enhances the flexibility of utilizing housing solutions and options and keeps pace with the social and economic shifts of the beneficiaries, and within the framework of ensuring transparency, the amendments included tightening the regulatory procedures related to the accuracy of the data entered, as it became possible to recover the amount of housing support, housing unit or land if incorrect information is provided.

The amendment to the regulation of housing support comes as a continuation of the efforts made by the “Sakani” program to provide various housing options and solutions that suit the needs of Saudi families and provide flexible and multiple solutions for beneficiaries as part of efforts to enhance housing support and diversify financing and housing options to accelerate the pace of home ownership for Saudi families.

The amendments will enable beneficiaries to receive the amount of housing support, housing unit or land in the event of incorrect information.

Beneficiaries who meet the conditions will be able to apply and benefit from the amendments to the organization of housing support after completing the necessary procedures for the regulations, which will be announced in due time.
