The industrial sector witnessed a great boom during the past years, as the number of factories produced by the end of the fourth quarter of last year 1434 AH reached 6,364 productive factories with a total funding of 873,166.88 million riyals, while the number of workers in factories amounted to 828,051 workers. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry explained in a recent statistical report that the Riyadh region topped the list of the number of productive factories in the Kingdom with a total of 2817 factories whose financing amounted to 101,128.16 million riyals, followed by the Eastern Province with 1492 productive factories with a total financing of 531,643.02 million riyals, and Mecca with 1177 productive factories with a total financing of 119,407.72 million riyals. The rest of the factories were distributed to the rest of the Kingdom's regions, and Al-Baha region had the lowest share of factories with 15 productive factories with a total funding of 59.78 million riyals. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry indicated in its recent statistics that factories of other non-metallic mineral products topped the number of factories produced by industrial activities, with 1264 factories, followed by factories of formed metal products excluding machinery and equipment with 881 factories, then factories of rubber and plastics products with 792 factories produced. The Ministry emphasized that the number of the remaining factories was distributed among the rest of the productive activities, and the repair and installation of machinery and equipment factories came as the lowest number of factories in the Kingdom, with about 5 productive factories.
