The construction of the third runway is part of the King Salman International Airport (KSIA) master plan. The construction of the third runway is part of the King Salman International Airport master plan and is a key milestone in the future expansion of the airport. The project is being executed in collaboration with FCC Construction and Al Mabani (general contractors). The runway system is designed to match the prevailing wind patterns in Riyadh, ensuring safe and efficient aircraft operations in various operational conditions.“
Riyadh International Airport's operational capacity is a key milestone in the airport's future expansion trajectory. The current operational capacity is (65) aircraft movements per hour, and with the implementation of operational improvements and the introduction of the third runway, the capacity will increase to (85) aircraft movements per hour, contributing to enhancing the efficiency of operations and supporting long-term growth, as the third runway includes several connecting corridors that ensure the smooth movement of aircraft, while the length of the third runway is (4,200) meters.
<Marco Mejia, Acting CEO of KSIA, said: ”The commencement of the third runway marks a pivotal step in the implementation of KSIA's master plan and reflects our commitment to building a world-class infrastructure capable of supporting future growth, enhancing operational efficiency, and expanding the long-haul network without constraints."
Marco Mejia, Acting CEO of KSIA, said. King Salman International Airport is a transformational national strategic project that embodies the Kingdom's ambition to strengthen Riyadh's position as a global capital and a major aviation hub. The project was announced by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, Chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs and Chairman of the Public Investment Fund, emphasizing the national importance of the project and its role in supporting the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
KSIA is located in the same location as Riyadh International Airport. <Located on the same site as King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the airport will include the King Khalid Terminals and three new terminals, residential and leisure assets, six runways, and logistics facilities. The airport spans 57 square kilometers, with a capacity of 100 million passengers per year and a cargo capacity of more than two million tons per year by 2030.
This phase of construction contributes to enhancing KSIA's international flight network to multiple global destinations, consolidating Riyadh's position as an international aviation gateway connected to the world and supporting the national development targets in the air transportation sector.
