Electricity Regulatory Authority launches campaign to raise consumer awareness of their rights and clarify disconnection prohibitions

A new awareness campaign clarifies the rights and duties of electricity consumers and the rules for not disconnecting the service to ensure justice and quality of electricity supply

As part of the development and reforms in the electricity sector, under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy, Saudi Electricity Regulatory Authority launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness among consumers of their rights and duties related to electricity service, after updating the Electricity Service Delivery Guide, which regulates the relationship between the consumer and the service provider; to ensure fair and transparent provision of electricity service to all categories of consumers.<The Authority explained that the most prominent rights of the consumer with the electric service provider include obtaining a reliable electric service and a monthly bill detailing consumption, in addition to not disconnecting the service for non-payment, in cases and times when the law prohibits this, such as: During school exam periods for public education schools, during the holy month of Ramadan, for residential consumption, after 12:00 p.m. and outside official working hours, as well as in the case of an existing complaint related to the bill, or if the establishment has a person with urgent needs for electricity.

The Authority invited all consumers to review the Electricity Service Provision Guide, published on its website: www.sera.gov.sa, to familiarize themselves with their rights and duties towards the electricity service provider, stressing its keenness to achieve the highest standards of justice, protect consumers' rights, and ensure the quality of service provided to them.
