The market for construction materials market in Saudi Arabia saw mixed price movements during the month of May, as some cement products continued to record slight increases on a month-over-month basis, while prices for a number of types of concrete and other construction materials declined, according to official data released by the General Authority for Statistics in its bulletin on average prices of goods and services.

The bulletin’s data showed that cement prices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia recorded a slight increase during the month of May, while concrete prices and a range of construction materials declined on a month-over-month basis. In terms of price details, the price of black cement rose by 0.1% to reach 15.8 riyals per 50-kg bag, while domestic white cement recorded a similar increase of 0.1% in May, bringing the price per bag to 38.5 riyals.

As for concrete, prices saw an overall decline during the same month, with the price of “350 k compressive strength” concrete fell by 0.3% to 225.9 riyals per cubic meter, while the price of “250 k compressive strength” concrete also fell by the same percentage to 206.2 riyals per cubic meter. “Standard 350 k” concrete fell by 0.4% to 215.7 riyals per cubic meter, while the price of “Standard 250 k” concrete fell by 0.2% to 197.4 riyals per cubic meter.

As for other building materials, the price of local marble chips fell by 0.3% to 23.2 riyals, while the price of domestic gypsum rose slightly by 0.1% to 15.9 riyals. Prices for black concrete blocks in the 15-cm and 20-cm sizes also fell by 0.7% and 0.4%, respectively, to 1,679 riyals and 1,736 riyals during May.

In the sand sector, fine white sand fell by 0.7% to 77.2 riyals per cubic meter, while the price of mixed (sand and gravel) fell by 0.4% to 52.4 riyals, and the price of red sand dropped by 1.9% to 38.1 riyals per cubic meter.
