The Riyadh Region Secretariat organized a workshop specifically for for engineering firms to introduce the design and architectural guidelines for the area stretching from Al-Oruba Road in the south to the Northern Ring Road in the north, within the central commercial corridor; with the aim of reviewing the regulatory and design frameworks for the guidelines, permitted activities, and the process for obtaining project permits.

The workshop addressed the importance of design and urban guidelines for the capital’s urban landscape, as a major destination for high-density, mixed-use development directly linked to public transportation networks, and the role of these guidelines in providing an urban environment that supports a diversity of uses for commercial, residential, office, hospitality, retail, and cultural activities.

The workshop also reviewed the key urban development guidelines, which included raising floor area ratios, increasing coverage ratios, and allowing greater flexibility in real estate uses, along with development incentives linked to connecting projects to the public transit system, It also highlighted the concept of the “green belt,” a key planning element in the region that integrates pedestrian walkways with natural features and provides shared public spaces within property boundaries.

This workshop aligns with the Riyadh Municipality’s vision to be a leading authority for a prosperous and sustainable Riyadh that enhances quality of life, and is part of its efforts to boost investment appeal to keep pace with the capital’s rapid urban growth.
