Jeddah Municipality Begins Developing Two Key Intersections to Address Traffic Congestion

The project includes engineering solutions and new traffic signals to increase traffic capacity and reduce congestion in downtown Jeddah by the third quarter of 2026.

The Jeddah Provincial Secretariat has begun implementing traffic development and improvement works at the intersections of Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Road (Al-Tahlia) and King Fahd Road and Al-Makrouna Road, as part of a project aimed at addressing traffic congestion and improving traffic flow on one of the city’s most vital thoroughfares.
The Secretariat explained that the project is part of the Quality of Life Program initiatives stemming from Saudi Vision 2030 and includes a series of engineering solutions and traffic management measures aimed at increasing the road’s capacity, reducing congestion, and improving traffic flow, in addition to enhancing the urban landscape and improving the quality of the built environment around the two intersections.

The work includes installing traffic signals to regulate traffic flow and improving the on- and off-ramps connecting the main road to service roads, thereby enhancing traffic safety, increasing transportation efficiency, reducing bottlenecks, and shortening wait times. The Secretariat confirmed that it will implement the necessary traffic diversions to ensure the continuity of traffic flow and maintain public safety during the project’s implementation period, noting that work began on February 1, 2026, and the current completion rate has reached 10%.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of the third quarter of this year, with the pace of implementation expected to accelerate in the coming months in accordance with the approved timeline. The project serves Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Road and downtown Jeddah, and its impact will be felt by residents of the Al-Faisaliyah, Al-Safa, Al-Rahab, and Al-Aziziyah neighborhoods, given the importance of these two intersections and their role in improving traffic flow on one of the city’s most important main roads.
