Majed Al-Hogail, Minister of Municipalities and Housing, confirmed that the completion of Preliminary Master Plan for the Northeast Riyadh Region reflects the ongoing urban development in the capital.
Al-Hogail said in a tweet on his X account, «The plan is based on a vision that puts people first, through integrated planning that brings housing closer to services, connects neighborhoods with efficient transportation networks, and establishes future growth centers that support economic diversity and cement Riyadh’s prosperity and sustainable growth.»
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City announced the completion of the preliminary master plan for the area located northeast of Riyadh, with a total area of approximately 456 square kilometers, located near King Khalid International Airport, Wadi Al-Sali, and the Dammam and Janadriyah highways.
The plan outlines a general vision for land use in the area and is based on a number of key principles, most notably the creation of a long-term urban model that allows for phased expansion, and the design of integrated communities that combine housing with daily services, along with a balanced distribution among residential, economic, recreational, and natural areas.
Expansion of Riyadh
The plan’s development is part of the long-term planning process for the expansion of Riyadh, which continues to experience urban, demographic, and economic growth as a capital undergoing rapid transformation. The plan helps organize one of the city’s future growth directions, in line with its current and future needs, with a focus on improving quality of life, enhancing green spaces, and preserving natural valleys within a balanced and integrated planning framework.
His Excellency the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, Engineer Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Sultan, expressed his gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City—may God protect them both—for the generous support and patronage Riyadh City has received.
Developing the Capital to Keep Pace with Population Growth
He explained that the preliminary master plan for the area northeast of Riyadh represents an important planning step in the capital’s development, and reflects the Authority’s efforts to anticipate the city’s needs, organize its expansion, and prepare long-term plans that keep pace with Riyadh’s growth.
The Authority emphasized that the master plan for northeast Riyadh represents an initial planning phase and is not an announcement of a new implementation project, as it will be followed by subsequent planning phases and the preparation of detailed plans for the various areas by the relevant authorities. Any subsequent updates will be announced through the Authority’s official channels and those of the relevant authorities.
