The Saudi Construction, Decoration and Interior Design Exhibition 2013 in its 22nd edition, which was held from 14-18 April at the Jeddah Center for Forums and Events and organized by Al-Harithi Exhibitions, witnessed great success and turnout amid the participation of more than 250 local and international companies that presented the latest in the world of construction, decoration and interior design, which was inaugurated by the Secretary of Jeddah Governorate Dr. Hani Amlak. It was inaugurated by Jeddah Governor Dr. Hani bin Mohammed Abu Ras on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Mishaal bin Majid, Governor of Jeddah.

The exhibition was able to attract more than 250 local, regional and international companies that represented the latest in the arts and world of construction, decoration and interior design. During his tour of the exhibition pavilions, Jeddah Governor Dr. Hani bin Mohammed Abu Ras stressed that the Kingdom is living a renaissance in projects, pointing out that the Kingdom is the largest market for building and construction in the Middle East, and the presence of the size of projects will greatly contribute to attracting the most prominent and latest technologies and smart industries in their implementation. Abu Ras added that the building and construction sector in the Kingdom is one of the most effective sectors in achieving economic and urban development in addition to being the main engine of the national economy, pointing to the importance of holding specialized exhibitions because of the positive returns in terms of meeting the needs of the market from this construction field.
Importance of the exhibition
Sharif Muwaffaq Al Harith, Chairman of Al Harithi Exhibitions Company, the organizer of the exhibition, said: «The exhibition is important for the development of the national economy as the construction and decoration sector is the fastest growing sector in the Kingdom, second only to oil in the national economy, stressing that its market share has reached 154.4 billion riyals, and is expected to increase with the continued success of the exhibition and expectations to achieve billions of investment opportunities.» Al-Sharif pointed out that the continued success of the exhibition over the past 21 years is reflected in the strong participation of major international and Saudi companies.
Business deals
For his part, Walid Saeed, Vice President of Al Harthy Company, expressed his happiness with the great success of the 22nd edition of the exhibition, pointing out that it translated through the huge investment opportunities, contracts and commercial deals that took place either between the exhibiting companies and each other, or between them and the exhibition audience, which achieved a remarkable presence with a large participation of specialists, businessmen and the younger generation, which reflects their interest in contributing to the identification of the new in the world of construction and decoration, especially with what was characterized this year by the exhibition of construction machinery and equipment on an area estimated at more than 20,000 m2, and the lectures and workshops of the elite experts in the field of construction and decoration.
According to Ministry of Finance figures, the Saudi government is investing approximately 180 billion dollars in the field of construction and is in the process of constructing 6.9 million housing units by 2020, building 92 hospitals worth 16.9 billion dollars and 40 billion dollars will be allocated for smart buildings in 2018.
Events and activities of the forum
The exhibition witnessed the activities of the accompanying forum held on the sidelines of the exhibition, which included many events, activities and seminars, initiated by Engineer Abdullah Al Turkistani ”for the Saudi Quality Council” at the opening of the forum, reviewing a documentary film about the Saudi Quality Council entitled «Excellence and Quality» that tells the most important developments and achievements in the Saudi construction sector, then Engineer Haitham Amin delivered a lecture entitled «Landscaping» followed by a lecture by Dr. Ahmed Alatas from the Geological Survey entitled «Granite : A Friendly Building Material,« followed by a presentation by Dr. Ahmed Thabet on project management.
The forum also included a lecture by Dr. Engineer Mohamed Moselhy on «The application of value engineering in rapid building systems, followed by another lecture by the International Society's colleague Dr. Emad Shablaq entitled «Value Engineering in Project Management«. The third lecture was entitled «Value Engineering and Necessary Costs» presented by Engineer Abdullah Khoja, a value engineering specialist, and the forum concluded with a lecture by Engineer Ali Al-Khowaiter, Head of Value Engineering from the Saudi Board of Engineers, entitled "Value Engineering Thoughts".
