The General Assembly also approved the organization’s internal operating procedures and the new membership fees for technicians.

Dr. Jamil Al-Baqawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Council of Engineers, explained in a speech that the Authority has begun implementing the Board’s strategic transformation plan, adopted during its fifth session, which is based on four main pillars from which the Authority has set out to achieve its vision and objectives, in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. He highlighted the Association’s most significant achievements during the past period, which include efforts to advance the engineering profession, train and develop Saudi engineers, focus on improving the operations of engineering and consulting firms, and focusing on the infrastructure needed to develop the Authority. He emphasized that the Authority has made significant progress toward achieving these goals through the accomplishments it has made across all of the aforementioned pillars.

At the conclusion of his remarks, Dr. Jamil Al-Baqawi explained that the Authority’s Board of Directors remains committed to fulfilling the aspirations of engineers and achieving further accomplishments in the coming period, emphasizing that the Authority will not rest on its laurels but will strive to achieve even more this year, in order to fulfill the aspirations of our wise government to build a strong generation armed with science and knowledge, and to accomplish—even if only a small part—of the work that meets the aspirations and ambitions of engineers, and to continue developing and taking new steps toward advancing the field of engineering and improving its outcomes, which will be the most important part of realizing the Kingdom’s vision. He expressed his gratitude to the engineers who attended the General Assembly. Following that, the Authority’s Secretary-General, Dr. Hussein Al-Fadli, presented a visual overview of the Authority’s annual report for the year 2016. In it, he reviewed the most significant achievements made during the past year.

For his part, the Authority’s Secretary-General, Dr. Hussein Al-Fadli, stated that the 13th Ordinary General Assembly was a model of successful work and outstanding achievement accomplished in a short period of no more than two years, as it saw numerous accomplishments of which engineers in general—and the Authority’s staff in particular—are proud, following diligent work that resulted in the General Assembly members approving, by a large majority, all resolutions put to a vote, He emphasized that this is an indication of satisfaction with the work carried out during the past period by the Authority’s staff, whether at the level of the Board of Directors or at the level of the staff of the Authority’s General Secretariat.

Al-Fadli added that the Authority presented engineers with an overview of all the achievements and goals it had accomplished over the past year, so that General Assembly members would be informed of all recent developments, foremost among which was the amendment to the Authority’s executive regulations, issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Investment, as well as the Authority’s internal operating regulations. It should be noted that attendance at the General Assembly was limited to full members—“Saudi engineers”—who had paid their dues to the Authority at least up to the date of the General Assembly, including owners of engineering, consulting, and engineering consulting firms, whose membership expiration dates with the Authority coincided with the expiration dates of the licenses for their respective firms issued by the Saudi Council of Engineers. Members were required to attend in person, and proxy attendance was not permitted.
