Shura Council calls on “Housing” to develop measurement mechanisms to ensure the readiness of the private sector to provide housing units of appropriate quality and price

At its session yesterday, chaired by Council Vice President Dr. Muhammad bin Amin al-Jafri, the Shura Council called on the Ministry of Housing to expedite the delivery of housing units to citizens, while emphasizing the need to remove obstacles to the option of providing direct loans through the Real Estate Development Fund, and to prioritize lending to citizens while avoiding financing developers.

Assistant Speaker of the Shura Council Dr. Yahya bin Abdullah Al-Sama’an explained that the Council made its decision after hearing the views of the Hajj, Housing, and Services Committee regarding the remarks and opinions raised by members during the discussion of the Ministry of Housing’s annual report for the fiscal year fiscal year 1436/1437 AH in a previous session, which was read by the committee chairman, Eng. Mufarrah Al-Zahrani.

In its resolution, the Council called on the Ministry of Housing to expedite the establishment and operation of the National Center for Housing Research and Monitoring, to study the reasons for the low completion rates of its projects, and to take the necessary measures to ensure that projects are completed on schedule.

In its resolution, the Council called on the Ministry of Housing to expedite the development of assessment mechanisms and models to ensure the private sector’s readiness, capacity, and efficiency in providing high-quality housing units at affordable prices.

The Council emphasized the need for the Ministry of Housing to represent citizens in drafting the loan agreements they enter into with banks and financial institutions when applying for mortgage loans.

In another resolution adopted during the session, the Shura Council also called on the Communications and Information Technology Commission to swiftly implement a strategy to provide broadband networks in all regions of the Kingdom and make these services available to everyone at high speeds and affordable prices, and to require telecommunications companies to expand their networks to continue providing the best services and fulfill their commitments to subscribers, such as unlimited internet and other services.
