The Kingdom led the Middle East and North Africa in spending on infrastructure and construction projects with costs amounting to more than 2.94 trillion riyals ($784 billion), including projects that are being implemented or those that the competent authorities intend to start implementing during the current year with the aim of promoting development projects, strengthening the industrial and economic sectors and exploiting natural resources and wealth to build modern facilities that support national development.
The “Track Projects” bulletin, which follows the progress of projects in parts of the world and is issued by “State”, indicated that the Kingdom led the Middle East and North Africa countries in spending on projects in the field of infrastructure and construction for this year, and the share of projects in the field of oil, gas, power generation and water reached about 60% of the cost of these projects, which were described as giant and attractive to investors from different countries of the world.
The report pointed out that there are projects being implemented in the Middle East and North Africa countries worth about 2.5 trillion dollars, 90% of which are in the Arab Gulf countries and up to 60% in Saudi Arabia and the Arab Emirates, explaining that projects costing up to 1.4 trillion dollars are being implemented while work is expected to start on projects costing up to 600 billion dollars, while projects costing up to 500 billion dollars are being finalized and are scheduled to see the light at the end of this year.
The United Arab Emirates came second after the Kingdom with spending on projects amounting to $669 billion, followed by Qatar with $273 billion, Kuwait with $249 billion, Egypt ranked fifth with $143 billion, while the rest of the countries spent $283 billion
