Retrofit Tech Dubai Summit & Awards returns for its fourth edition this year to focus on the topic of building and facility modernization and its positive impact on reducing energy consumption in Dubai.
Implementation of $43.56 million worth of projects
Etihad Energy Services Company (Etihad ESCO) - which specializes in modernizing buildings in Dubai - plans to increase its share of central cooling in the emirate to 40% by 2030. The company announced last year that it would undertake US$43.56 million worth of projects this year to expand its services beyond building modernization to industrial and solar installations, and was awarded a tender in May 2017 to develop and install photovoltaic systems in 640 villas owned by UAE nationals in Hatta.

Modernization of more than 30,000 buildings in Dubai

Modernizing Buildings and Hotels
<Real estate developers, building owners and operators are also looking to modernize buildings in the residential sector, and Etihad ESCO and Al Wasl Asset Management have signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct a study to assess the current energy efficiency feasibility of Al Wasl's 450 buildings and facilities. The Department of Tourism and Commerce Promotion (DTCM) is expected to finalize its framework and guidelines to ensure that hotels have clear key indicators to assess their energy efficiency performance, as the sector has become more profitable than ever with nearly 700 hotels in Dubai today.Hotel modernization may also become a regulatory requirement in the Emirate of Dubai, with the Department of Tourism and Commerce Promotion (DTCM) expected to finalize its framework and guidelines to ensure that hotels have clear key indicators to assess their energy efficiency performance.
Promoting energy efficiency programs
The education and healthcare sectors are also seeing a push to modernize facilities. Hospitals such as Sharjah Teaching Hospital and Ezzat Imran Hospital, and universities such as the American University of Dubai and Zayed University, have begun modernization work to boost energy efficiency programs.The fourth annual Retrofit Tech Dubai Summit & Awards - organized and strategically supported by Etihad ESCO and TAQATI - will bring together more than 250 participants and 45 industry experts to stimulate dialogue and find innovative ways to achieve the goals of the UAE's building retrofit program.
