The leading travel website and application in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region (Wego) revealed that tourist chalets are increasingly popular as one of the preferred accommodation options during domestic tourist trips.

Chalets were the fourth most popular accommodation option on Wego, just behind hotels, which are still in first place.

Anna Tran, CEO of Wego, attributed the rise in popularity of chalets to the popularity of chalets in the Middle East and North Africa. <Anna Trushkina, Wego's Director of Hotels, attributed the popularity of chalets among Saudi families to the nature of chalet design, which allows for a great deal of privacy and tranquility for residents, explaining: “Saudi families prefer to rent chalets because they are closer to family customs and traditions and are more suitable for families to meet in a conservative environment; in many cases they offer more privacy than hotels or hotel apartments.”

Anna Troschkina, Wego's Director of Hotels, attributed the growing popularity of chalets to the naturalness of their design, which offers a great deal of privacy and tranquility for residents.

She described the growing demand for chalets in particular over the past year and the first quarter of this year compared to previous years as an interesting shift. Although occupancy rates for family chalets in Saudi cities increased last year - something that is expected to continue this year as temperatures begin to rise in the region - Trushkina stressed that supply is still limited and does not exceed 3% of vacationers” accommodation options in the Kingdom.

Trushkina continued. <Trushkina continued: “There is a high demand from different families, both nationals and residents of the Kingdom, but the issue is that the availability of this type of tourist accommodation is limited compared to the demand. This may be due to the high costs of constructing, managing and providing them with various facilities and features that make them competitive with hotel facilities of all categories, especially those on the east and west coast of the Kingdom. Chalets are especially abundant in Saudi Arabia's inland cities, most notably Riyadh in the central region, where there are 37 chalets, Buraidah (24) and Aniza (8) in the northern region, Khamis Mushait (6) in the south, and Taif (4) chalets only.”

<As temperatures begin to rise in the Kingdom, Wego's travel and tourism experts have put together a list of the ten best chalets in the Kingdom based on demand and user reviews.
