Hotels and tourism businesses see a boost... Saudis are the second-largest group of visitors to Abu Dhabi hotels during Eid al-Adha

Saudi nationals ranked second among the nationalities staying in Abu Dhabi hotels during Eid al-Adha in 1439 AH, corresponding to this August, with a 91% occupancy rate. Emirati nationals ranked first with a 281% occupancy rate, followed by Indians and British nationals in third place with an 81% occupancy rate, while American tourists accounted for 41%. In addition, there were visitors of other nationalities arriving from outside the country.

Hotel establishments in Abu Dhabi recorded an occupancy rate of 81% during Eid al-Adha of the year 1439 AH, corresponding to August 2018, during the holiday period that lasted from Tuesday, August 21, to Friday, August 24, a 6% increase compared to the 75% recorded during Eid al-Adha last year..

The highest increase in hotel occupancy was recorded on the second day of Eid, with an occupancy rate of 87%. This special holiday saw a rapid rise in the number of visitors who came to Abu Dhabi for the holiday, with visitors from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, India, the United Kingdom, and the United States accounting for 55% of the total number of visitors.

Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said: “Once again, Abu Dhabi reaffirms its strong position as a distinctive and preferred tourist destination for visitors from the region and around the world, and we are making confident progress toward turning our visitor projections for this year into reality. We are in a strong position to maximize the opportunities available in the remainder of the year. The Eid al-Adha holiday provided an additional boost to the emirate’s efforts to attract more visitors and demonstrated the success of its approach, as the capital welcomed a record number of visitors who chose Abu Dhabi for their holiday, with many of its hotels reporting full occupancy.”

Regarding occupancy rates by hotel star rating. Four-star hotels recorded the highest occupancy rate at 88.1%, while one- to three-star hotels recorded the lowest rate at 72.1%. Compared to last year’s Eid al-Adha in 1438 AH (corresponding to 2017 CE), five- and four-star hotels saw a notable increase in occupancy rates. The occupancy rate for five-star hotels recorded a growth rate of 91%, while four-star hotels achieved a growth rate of 81%.
