The Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON) succeeded in increasing the number of industrial cities in the Kingdom to 36 cities by the end of 2020, which includes more than 4 thousand factories between productive, existing and under construction and establishment with a total investment of more than 370 billion riyals.
The Director of Marketing and Corporate Communication Department, Spokesperson Qusay Al Abdulkarim, explained that since its establishment in 2001, MODON has been working to support the industrial sector in the Kingdom through its supervision of industrial cities, complexes, special industrial cities and technology zones, pointing out that it witnessed a historic shift in its overall performance 5 years ago, coinciding with the launch of the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
He explained that the accumulated achievements achieved by MODON during 20 years have made it an advanced position on the path of promoting the industrial sector, thus achieving the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to diversify the national economy by relying on industry as a strategic choice, and implementing the initiatives of the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program “NEDLIP” to make the Kingdom a leading industrial center and a global platform for logistics services, leading to the establishment of the components of sustainable development.
Modon has a qualitative strategy to enable industry and contribute to increasing local content by creating the optimal environment with innovative products and services, capable of keeping pace with the aspirations of its partners in the private sector, in order to attract and localize local and international value-added investments to industrial cities and help develop the role of the non-oil sector in the gross domestic product.<He pointed out that during the last five years, the number of factories in industrial cities has increased to more than 4,000 factories between productive, existing, under construction and establishment, including investments by international companies, adding that the number of contracts increased to 6,587 industrial, service, logistics and investment contracts, while the number of ready factories reached 945 factories to support small and medium enterprises, entrepreneurship and women's investments, and the areas of industrial land developed increased to nearly 200 million m².<On the level of localization of strategic industries, he stressed that a cooperation was recently launched between MODON and the General Authority for Military Industries, with the aim of contributing to the localization of 50% of military spending and supporting the Kingdom's orientation to make military industries an important tributary of economic development and provide job opportunities for the sons and daughters of the country MODON also succeeded in increasing the number of food and beverage factories in its industrial cities by 200% from 318 factories in 2016 to more than 915 factories, and medical factories by more than 150% from 64 factories to nearly 173 factories, contributing to achieving food and medical security for the Kingdom according to the targets of Saudi Vision 2030.The National Productivity Program was launched in partnership with the Saudi Industrial Development Fund and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) to help factories achieve the highest rates of productive efficiency and adopt the applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, while increasing the coverage rates of industrial cities with high-speed internet and 5G services in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and telecommunications companies in the Kingdom.
He pointed out that the industrial cities host 517,242 thousand workers and employees Food products, beverages, medical products and supplies, metals, construction materials, chemicals and their products, refined petroleum products, textiles, leather, equipment and machinery, vehicles and trailers, in addition to rubber and plastic products, computer manufacturing and electronic and optical products.
Modon is working to enhance the role of women in industrial development and increase the volume of women's investments in the sector from 1% to 20% by 2030, while providing all products and services that help them play their developmental role in the national economy, noting that the number of Saudi women working in industrial cities has increased by nearly 120% from 7860 employees to nearly 17,000 Saudi women by the end of 2020.He stressed that “Modon” is working continuously and in integration with the public and private sectors to develop its services and products to achieve the satisfaction of its partners through the facilitated procedures and incentives it provides in its industrial cities, which contribute to reducing the operational cost, reducing the time period to start their productive activities and sustain their business, while achieving the largest possible return on investment.
