Schneider Electric, the global leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, announced today that its electric vehicle charging stations (EVlink Smart Wallbox) have received certification from the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, thereby reaffirming the company’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s vision of transitioning to sustainable mobility, promoting the use of electric vehicles, and reducing carbon emissions.
Mohammed Shaheen, President of Schneider Electric Group in Saudi Arabia and Yemen, said: “The shift toward electric-powered transportation will play a vital role in supporting the Kingdom’s journey toward achieving its vision of net-zero carbon emissions. Furthermore, the certification of electric vehicle charging stations by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) represents a significant achievement and supports Schneider Electric’s efforts to establish the appropriate infrastructure to facilitate Saudi Arabia’s transition to the era of electric vehicles andsustainable mobility.“
Schneider Electric’s smart EV charging station increases energy efficiency during the charging process and optimizes the electricity costs of operating the stations, through a range of smart and advanced technical features, while providing a state-of-the-art charging experience for both charging station operators and electric vehicle owners alike.
The electric vehicle sector in the Kingdom is a key pillar of Saudi Vision 2030 and its focus on the transition to clean and sustainable energy sources. Electric vehicles are essential to achieving the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative, which aims to reduce carbon emissions by 60% across the region. Recent research conducted at the King Abdullah Center for Petroleum Studies and Research has shown that if all vehicles in the Kingdom were replaced with electric vehicles, emissions would be cut in half—equivalent to 35 million metric tons.
It is worth noting that the regulations of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization (SASO) are the sole authority governing electric vehicles in the Kingdom, as they specify the requirements for vehicles and charging stations to meet safety standards, and ensure they are tested in accordance with specifications tailored to the Kingdom’s climatic conditions.
