The National Exhibitions and Conferences Program recently held the fifth meeting of the program’s advisory group in Madinah, attended by Dr. Khalid Taher, Secretary of Madinah and a member of the region’s Tourism Development Council.
The meeting, which was attended by Ahmed Al-Harbi, Director of Events at the Madinah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, discussed the National Exhibitions and Conferences Program’s plan for classifying exhibitions and conferences organizations and events, as well as the financial compensation for the services provided by the program. The discussion touched on a number of topics that promote the development of the exhibitions and conferences sector as one of the vital and promising economic sectors.
Attendees were briefed on the findings and recommendations of the fourth meeting of the Advisory Group, held in Dammam on 23/3/1436 AH, The decisions of the Supervisory Committee from its seventh meeting were reviewed, and the meeting discussed working papers focused on improving the performance of organizers, events, and facilities in the exhibitions and conferences sector.
Engineer Tariq Abdulrahman Al-Issa, Rapporteur of the Advisory Group and Executive Director of the National Exhibitions and Conferences Program, commended the active participation of the members of the Program’s Advisory Group and the participation of the Secretary of the Madinah Region. He highlighted the role of the Supervisory Committee, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman, President of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, and its significant importance in engaging the public and private sectors in developing regulations, procedures, and plans that promote the growth of the exhibitions and conferences sector in the Kingdom and advancing it to become more productive and effective.
The tasks of the Advisory Group, which comprises 22 experts, to contribute opinions and information toward the preparation of development plans for the Kingdom’s exhibitions and conferences sector, to develop standards and procedures for classification, licensing, and oversight of exhibitions, conferences, their venues, and their organizers, determining the fees for services provided by the program, and proposing policies and plans to incentivize investors to join the exhibition and conference sector in the Kingdom.
