assets of the Saudi Central Bank grew at an estimated annual rate of 5.5%, with an increase of approximately 92,049 billion riyals, bringing the total to 1,754,112 trillion riyals by the end of the second quarter of 2024, compared to 1,662,018 trillion riyals during the same period last year.
Measured against assets reserve assets during the current year, the data showed that they reached their highest levels by the end of June 2024, according to the Saudi Central Bank’s monthly statistical bulletin for June.
Meanwhile, reserve assets recorded quarterly growth of an estimated 2.7%, with an increase of approximately 46,724 billion riyals, compared to the first quarter of the same year, when they stood at 1,707,388 trillion riyals. Reserve assets also grew on a monthly basis by an estimated 0.1%, representing an increase of approximately 1,146 billion riyals.
It should be noted that reserves reserve assets grew from the beginning of this year through the end of June by an estimated 6.6%, representing an increase of approximately 107,986 billion riyals, having stood at 1,646,126 trillion riyals at the end of January.
Reserve assets consist of five main categories:
First, the “Investments in Foreign Securities” category, which is the largest component, accounting for approximately 58% of the total, and stood at approximately 1,015,635 trillion riyals at the end of the second quarter of 2024.
Second, the “Foreign Currency and Deposits Abroad” category, accounting for approximately 37% of the total, amounting to approximately 646,285 billion riyals.
Third, the “Special Drawing Rights” category, which accounted for approximately 4% of the total, amounted to 77,238 billion riyals.
Fourth, the “Reserves with the International Monetary Fund” category, which amounted to 13,331 billion riyals.
Fifth, the “Gold” category, which amounted to 1,624 billion riyals.
