Abdulrahman Al-Hussein, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, confirmed that Thursday, the fifth of Shawwal is an important day in the world of commerce, as the new Commercial Registration and Trade Names systems come into effect.

Al-Hussein explained that the new commercial registration system has witnessed major changes, including not issuing sub-registers for a merchant and only one register, not specifying a city for the commercial register and covering all regions of the Kingdom.

Hussein pointed out that there is no longer a city for the commercial register and it includes all regions of the Kingdom. He drew attention to the fact that there is no end date for the commercial register and it is sufficient for the trader to submit an annual confirmation of the data, which was recorded in the register, and that the commercial register number will be the unified number of the establishment, which starts with the number 7, noting that the existing sub-registers have been given a five-year grace period to correct their situation.

The Trade Spokesperson explained that the new commercial register system has been introduced in the Kingdom. The trade spokesman explained that the new trade name system allowed the reservation and registration of a trade name in English, and the trade name may include letters or numbers, unlike the previous system, which was limited to the Arabic language without letters or numbers.

Al Hussein pointed out that the new trade name system will be the unified number of the establishment, which starts with 7. Al-Hussein pointed out that the new names system allows the trade name to be disposed of independently of the establishment and can be assigned to another merchant, and that it is not possible to register an identical or similar name for an establishment even if the activity differs.

Hussein pointed out that there are controls and regulations for the registration of trade names in English. He noted that there are controls included in the new names system to reserve the family name as a commercial name, and the existence of criteria for prohibited or shaded names.
