Notice period applies to all existing residential leases

Landlords and tenants are required to give one year's notice for non-renewal and automatically extend contracts to complete the required statutory period

The CEO of of the General Real Estate Authority the application of the notice period stipulated in Regulating the Relationship Between Landlord and Tenant to all residential lease agreements in effect at the time the new regulatory provisions take effect.

The decision was based on the second paragraph of Article 8 of the provisions governing the relationship between landlord and tenant, which stipulates that the notice period specified in the decision shall apply to existing residential leases upon the regulation’s entry into force. Under the decision, the party wishing not to renew the lease must notify the other party 365 days prior to the lease’s expiration, in accordance with the regulations set forth in the new legislation.

If the specified notice period is not met prior to the contract’s expiration date, the contract is automatically extended for the period necessary to complete the notice period, with this period beginning on the date the notice of non-renewal is sent, thereby ensuring compliance with the statutory notice period.
