Cabinet approves amendments to housing subsidy regulation

The amendments lower the eligibility age to 20, eliminate the dependency requirement, and shorten the period of disposal of subsidy options to five years.

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, presided over a session of the Council of Ministers, held today in Jeddah. At the beginning of the session, the Council was briefed on the plans prepared for this year's Hajj season 1446 AH in accordance with the highest levels of efficiency and quality and the highest levels of coordination and integration between the concerned authorities to provide the pilgrims with means of comfort and tranquility, in light of the Kingdom's capabilities, giant development projects and advanced infrastructure that included all aspects of services to facilitate the performance of rituals for people coming from all over the world.

The amendments to the Housing Support regulation included reducing the age of eligibility for housing support for the head of the family to 20 years instead of 25 years, eliminating the condition of dependency from the divorced wife and mother to give equal opportunities to all citizens of both sexes, in addition to allowing the amendment to the competent authority to review the period of eligibility for a divorced woman for housing support with the relevant authorities.

The amendments also included reducing the age of eligibility for housing support to 20 years instead of 25 years. The amendments also included reducing the period of disposal of housing support options from 10 years to 5 years, which enhances the flexibility of utilizing housing solutions and options and keeps pace with the social and economic shifts of the beneficiaries, and within the framework of ensuring transparency, the amendments included tightening the regulatory procedures related to the accuracy of the data entered, as it became possible to recover the amount of housing support, housing unit or land if incorrect information is provided.

The amendments come with the amendment of the housing support regulation from 10 years to 5 years. The amendment to the regulation of housing support comes as a continuation of the efforts made by the "Sakani" program to provide various housing options and solutions that suit the needs of Saudi families and provide flexible and multiple solutions for beneficiaries as part of efforts to enhance housing support and diversify financing and housing options to accelerate the pace of home ownership for Saudi families.

The amendments will enable beneficiaries to receive the amount of housing support, the housing unit or the land in the event of incorrect information.

While beneficiaries who meet the conditions will be able to apply and benefit from the amendments to the organization of housing support after completing the necessary procedures for the regulations, which will be announced in due course.
