The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and the Saudi Council of Engineers have reached an agreement to postpone the classification of engineering firms and to form a working group to amend the mechanism in a way that ensures quality and excellence in performance.
This decision was made during a meeting with the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Engineer Abdul Latif bin Abdul Malik Al Sheikh, at his office at the ministry earlier this week Dr. Jamil Jarallah Al-Baqawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Council of Engineers, and a number of association members and engineers representing various engineering firms. Dr. Al-Baqawi explained that the meeting discussed the classification of consulting and engineering firms, a joint initiative involving the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, and the Saudi Council of Engineers. He emphasized the Ministry’s and the Council’s commitment to establishing legislation and mechanisms that support development efforts, and address the problems they face and the obstacles hindering their progress, given the great importance of the construction, engineering, and contracting sectors as the primary driver of the national economy and the largest employer across all sectors.
The Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors confirmed that the meeting concluded with a decision to postpone the engineering firms classification project and to form a working group to amend the mechanism in a way that ensures quality and excellence in performance, expressing his gratitude to the Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs for his continued support of engineering professionals and his interest in the professional development of engineers, as well as the project to classify engineering firms and consulting companies.
