The National Women’s Committee of the Council of Saudi Chambers has completed the final stages of implementing the «Work from Home» project in collaboration with relevant government agencies, enabling the pursuit of 85 business activities from home. It is hoped that the results of this project will benefit broad segments of Saudi society across various regions, particularly women and people with special needs. The Council’s National Women’s Committee reached an agreement with eight government agencies to identify 85 commercial activities that can be licensed for home-based operation, as part of the “Work from Home” project proposed by the Council of Chambers to the relevant authorities within the framework of its efforts to address unemployment and open up more investment opportunities for low-income groups.
According to Huda Al-Juraisi, chairwoman of the Council’s National Women’s Committee, the eight government agencies that contributed to establishing the regulations and conditions for issuing licenses to conduct business from home are the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Information, the General Organization for Technical and Vocational Training, the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, and the Communications and Information Technology Commission. She noted that a number of general regulations and conditions have been established for conducting these activities from home, the most important of which are that the license must be for a single activity only, that the activity must be included in the list of permitted activities specified by the relevant authorities, that the project must not cause any harm to public health or the environment, that it must not place a burden on public utilities, and that the licensee must carry out the work herself or with the assistance of family members, with proof of proficiency in the craft or productive activity through an academic qualification or professional license; the premises must be suitable and equipped with everything necessary for the licensed activity and must comply with safety and security regulations; and the activity must be carried out in a separate section of the home, provided that the property is owned by the licensee or one of her first-degree relatives, or with the consent of the property owner or landlord.
