The delegation of Riyadh Municipality carried out an exploratory visit to Sydney, Australia, as part of a specialized program to learn about international experiences in integrated urban planning, managing population growth, developing infrastructure and promoting sustainability, in support of developing municipal policies and practices in the city of Riyadh.

The visit program started with learning about the experience of the Liverpool Municipal Council, as one of the fastest growing areas in western Sydney, where the strategic framework for long-term planning was reviewed, as well as the mechanisms for dealing with rapid urban expansion. The delegation was briefed on urban performance indicators and the planning model based on education, innovation, medical sector and logistics, as well as the development of green and connected urban environments, with a focus on affordable housing, quality of life and neighborhood sustainability.

The visit included the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal, where the role of major logistics infrastructure in reshaping urban development patterns, shifting freight traffic from road to rail, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing integration with industrial areas, the airport, and the aerotropolis was examined.

The delegation visited Western Sydney International Airport and learned about the model of developing airports as economic engines, integrating urban planning with transportation networks, phased expansion of projects, the application of highly efficient digital operating systems, and environmental sustainability practices.

At the end of the visit program, the delegation was briefed on the experience of building a new city from scratch. <At the conclusion of the visit program, the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Sydney received the delegation of the Riyadh Municipality in the Consul General's lounge, as part of strengthening institutional communication and confirming the diplomatic mission's support for the Municipality's external programs and exchange of international experiences. It is noteworthy that this visit comes as an extension of the Riyadh Municipality's strategy to develop the urban planning system and adopt the best international practices, which contributes to improving the quality of life in Riyadh, in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

At the end of the visit program, the delegation was received by the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Sydney.
