Dubai allocates Dh703 million for the fourth and fifth phases of its canal

In implementation of the directives of the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to implement the Dubai Water Canal, develop the infrastructure and complete the project according to the approved timetable, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has awarded the contract for the fourth and fifth phases of the project at a cost of AED 703 million, and the completion date of the two phases will be the end of September.

According to Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, the cost of the fourth phase is AED 307 million, and this phase is part of the infrastructure to serve the development areas on both sides of the Dubai Water Canal, which includes the construction of a 3.2-kilometer-long water channel, extending from the Business Bay Canal to the Arabian Gulf, passing through Sheikh Zayed, Al Wasl and Jumeirah streets, and this phase includes implementing the infrastructure works required to serve these lands, including roads and services,

While the cost of the fifth phase of the water canal project is 396 million dirhams, which will lead to linking the Business Bay Canal with the Dubai Water Canal to the Arabian Gulf, and includes completing the work of precast concrete canal walls along the water canal, completing the work of transferring and transferring the main services necessary to complete the implementation of the canal and removing the affected services, working to reduce the degree of salinity of the water in the lakes of Business Bay, removing sand barriers in the path of the water canal, in addition to implementing 3 marine transportation stations on both banks of the channel."

The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) stressed that the work on the Dubai Water Canal project is proceeding according to the approved timetable, and the total completion rate of the Sheikh Zayed Road Bridge project has reached 92%, where the northern bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road in the direction from Abu Dhabi to Dubai was recently opened, while the southern bridge in the direction from Dubai to Abu Dhabi reached 81%, which is expected to be opened next July, noting that the contract for the first phase includes the implementation of a bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road axis with a capacity of eight lanes in each direction, passing over the course of the canal to allow free navigation around the clock, in addition to modifying the paths of affected roads to achieve the integration of traffic between the two banks of the new canal, the length of the affected part of Sheikh Zayed Road is about 800 meters, and the project also includes works to convert existing service lines that are affected by the canal path, in addition to smart lighting works, which are controlled through the smart application, and water fountains works on the bridge.
