Engineer Saleh bin Ibrahim Al-Rashid, Director General of the Industrial Cities Authority, explained that the Authority is working to develop the infrastructure of industrial cities in Saudi Arabia, and that its goal is to increase the area of developed industrial land to 160 million square meters across 40 industrial cities by 2015.
He added that the development projects underway in the Kingdom are large-scale, and that “Madin” is striving to ensure that a significant portion of these projects involves local manufacturing, noting that they have made good progress in this regard, noting that the manufacturing sector accounts for 15 percent of industrial revenue, and that the Authority aims to increase this percentage to 20 percent by 2020.
During the opening of the Third Industrial Opportunities Forum, which recently concluded, he mentioned the launch of 30 opportunities related to consumer goods, the plastics industry, and the energy and electricity sectors, as well as water desalination industries. He added, “Across all sectors involved in industry in the Kingdom, we are working to fulfill the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques” vision of making the Kingdom’s industry a strategic option for diversifying sources of income, and we are working to achieve this by providing more than 140 million industrial meters of developed land and hosting more than 4,000 factories operating in these cities.”
