Knowledge Economic City Company (KEC) has started offering 102 million shares at a price of 10 riyals as a nominal value per share, equivalent to a value of SAR 1.02 billion, representing 30.06% of the total capital of the KEC project currently under construction in Medina, just five kilometers away from the Prophet's Mosque.
The subscription will continue until the 16th of Jumada Al-Thani (May 24 to May 30, 2010). It should be noted that the minimum subscription for Madinah shares is fifty shares at a price of ten riyals per share, and it should be noted that the financial advisors for the subscription process are (Al Ahli Capital and Swicorp Financial Advisors)
“Knowledge City represents a promising opportunity to develop a strong base in line with the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques to encourage knowledge industries, in light of the availability of strong elements of success for Knowledge City,“ said Dr. Sami Mohsen Baroum, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Knowledge City Economic Company in a press conference held on the occasion of the start of the IPO process.
He pointed out that the Knowledge City is located within the urban area of Medina, and benefits from the existing infrastructure in Medina and the presence of local demand for all project products such as residential, commercial or office units and educational, health and tourism services, and the city has a high attraction to a large segment of the Islamic world wishing to visit, work and live in Medina with a distinct transportation network and an international airport and a high growth rate in population density and visitors who currently number about 9 (nine) million visitors, which is expected to reach 34 million visitors by 2024.
He added that the city also has the basic infrastructure of water, electricity and sewage in the Knowledge City area. The site is also a few minutes away from the Haram Al Sharif and 8 km from Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Medina, which has a capacity of 30 million passengers after its expansion is completed, in addition to the location of the Haramain train station at the eastern end of the knowledge city according to the plan where the capacity of the Haramain train is expected to be about 12 million passengers per year.
Dr. Baroum explained that the presence of the Haramain train is expected to have a capacity of 12 million passengers annually.
Dr. Baroum explained that the presence of the King Abdullah Parental Foundation for Developmental Housing as a major partner gives strong support to the project due to the Foundation's potential in developing housing projects in different cities of the Kingdom, as well as the presence of a number of strategic developers, foremost among which is Savola Group for its great experience in forming and managing investment entities.
In addition to Taiba Holding Company, which has a huge real estate portfolio and distinct capabilities in the field of real estate development, which qualified it to be the first and largest real estate development company in the central area of Medina with its residential and commercial real estate projects facing the Prophet's Mosque, and the Bin Laden Group's real estate projects management and development company known for its ability to develop most large projects in Medina and most cities in the Kingdom.
He said that all this puts the project in an advanced position through the blending of all the possibilities of the alliance between these companies, in addition to the investment and legislative incentives available to the project through the Economic Cities Authority, which supported the project, especially in its early stages, which directly helped in signing joint agreements with major international companies in a number of fields such as information technology and others.
Knowledge City and DeepCloud Agreement
Knowledge Economic City Developers Company signed an agreement with DeepCloud to establish a center for information preservation and advanced technological services on an area of 30,000 square meters, at a total investment cost estimated at 400 million riyals, to be the first center of its kind in the region that uses advanced technology, computer systems and associated components such as telecommunications and stable information systems to be an advanced regional center based on knowledge industries and to provide data use for both the private and public sectors and serve as a backup center during disasters (Disaster Recovery)
The signing was signed by the CEO of DeepCloud Saudi Arabia, HRH Prince Faisal bin Turki Al-Faisal, and on the part of KEC, Taher Bawazir, CEO of the company, the CEO of DeepCloud, Mr. Christopher Franco, and a number of engineers, consultants and technicians.
His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Turki Al-Faisal said that DeepCloud's investments in the Knowledge Economic City in Medina will reach more than 400 million riyals, and that the data and information center will be established on a global and advanced level to be the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East region in general.
His Highness added that the data and information center will make the Kingdom a major hub for high-tech industries in the Middle East region and will make Medina and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the best in handling disasters related to the preservation of information.
