Emir of Riyadh: Diriyah's World Heritage status confirms the Kingdom's historical status

<Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Riyadh and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Development of Diriyah, stressed that the registration of the historical site of Diriyah on the World Heritage List reinforces the historical value of the Arabian Peninsula as an ancient home of diverse human civilizations, after UNESCO announced two years ago the inclusion of Mada'in Saleh on the World Heritage List.
He said that the approval of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee to register the Al-Turaif neighborhood in Diriyah as a World Heritage Site during the Committee's 34th session represents a global recognition of the great historical value of this archaeological site and highlights the historical status of the Kingdom and its great civilizational heritage.
Diriyah was recently inscribed on the World Heritage List, confirming the Kingdom's historical status, pictured here are some of the monuments of the historic city.
He expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Crown Prince and the Second Deputy - may Allah protect them - for their support and care for efforts aimed at preserving and developing the national heritage to remain a source of pride and a cultural and economic resource.
He added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has many cultural and historical assets, and it is important to transfer this culture and civilization to the world and interact with global changes, so that the Kingdom highlights its contribution to global civilizational transformations.
He said that the registration of the historical Diriyah in the World Heritage List entails more efforts to protect, preserve, prepare and rehabilitate the site in accordance with the technical commitments and the timetable submitted by the Kingdom in the nomination file and management plan, and in accordance with the requirements and specifications of the World Heritage Center and at a level that befits Diriyah as a World Heritage Site and the reputation of the Kingdom with permanent efforts and support for UNESCO, pointing out that the inclusion of Diriyah in the World Heritage List confirms in addition to its historical and architectural importance, its political importance as the capital of the first Saudi state, and a scientific and cultural center in Arabia.
